Brisbane mum Michelle from Carindale came heartbreakingly close to a life-changing win on KIIS 97.3’s Million Dollar Day.
With her husband Ian by her side, Michelle had the chance to unlock $1 million by choosing the right numbered locker. After much thought, she went with 28, but the winning number was 42. The near miss was especially bittersweet after Ian admitted 42 was the number he’d suggested, even referencing The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Still, Michelle’s positivity shone through. “I’m actually all good,” she said after the reveal. “One to one hundred, I stuck to my guns.”
The stakes were high for the family of six, who navigate life with a five-seater car; they dreamed of what the prize money could have meant. But while the million-dollar envelope slipped away, generosity came flooding in. Tangalooma Island Resort stepped up with a three-night beachfront holiday package, complete with dolphin feeding, quad biking, snorkelling, and sunset cocktails for the entire family.
It wasn’t the jackpot, but Michelle and Ian left with something priceless: a well-earned escape and the knowledge that, sometimes, even second chances can feel like a win.
