Step aside, Paris! Brisbane is officially giving the City of Love a run for its money.

A new global study has ranked the most romantic destinations on Earth, and Brisbane has swooped into sixth place, making it Australia’s top spot for couples. The sunny Queensland capital even outranked iconic heavyweights like Rome and Paris, which landed in seventh and ninth, respectively.

Researchers analysed 553 cities worldwide, scoring each one based on three love-filled factors: how often attractions were tagged as ‘romantic’ on Tripadvisor, how many couple-friendly activities were available, and the number of #datenight and city-specific hashtags lighting up social media.

London came out on top, with more than 25% of its attractions described as romantic by visitors. But Brisbane wasn’t far behind, impressing with over 35% of its attractions rated romantic, higher than both Paris and Rome.

Whether it’s a sunset stroll along South Bank, dinner by the river, or a cheeky weekend escape in the hinterland, Brissy clearly knows how to charm.
