While recovering from a serious Achilles injury that left him sidelined and in a cast, Guy Sebastian has discovered a rising star in his own household, his ten-year-old son, Archie.
During a recent chat with Robin, Kip & Corey Oates, Guy revealed that Archie had surprised the family by rewriting the lyrics to one of his father’s songs, turning it into a custom anthem for his basketball game. Not only were the lyrics clever, but Archie demonstrated a rare ear for harmony, something Guy said even professional singers often struggle to develop naturally.
“I’ve worked with professional singers who have to learn harmony note for note,” Sebastian said. “Archie just hears it, it’s instinctive.”
It wasn’t long before the conversation turned to Corey’s Little League, Corey’s brainchild, designed to bring the fun back to footy for kids aged 11 to 12. The event is pulling together teams from across the city, and the organisers are after something special: a theme song, written and sung by a kid.
When asked if Archie would be up for the challenge, Guy didn’t hesitate. “I reckon he would be. Honestly, that’s nothing for him. He’s such a weapon,” he said. “I hate being that parent that brags about their kid, but Jules and I just look at each other like, ‘What the heck?’”
Archie’s older brother, Hudson, 13, is currently rugby-obsessed, and Guy suggested he might pitch in with some lyrical ideas too, a full family effort to soundtrack a celebration of junior footy.
If Archie takes on the brief, the theme song will be played in the lead-up to the big day and could become an anthem for young footy fans right across the country.
