Corey Oates’ passion project, Corey’s Little League, just got real. With Construction Pathways on board as sponsor and South Logan’s Big Game Park locked in as the home ground, all signs point to kickoff. But the biggest play? Securing a coach — and Corey’s called in a big gun.

Enter: Queensland great Matt Gillett, who accidentally answered the phone and instantly got roped in. After a chaotic morning involving a bottle of Baileys and a broken car, Gillett agreed to take the reins of the North Side squad, promising “old school” training and hard work. Think Rocky montage, but with 11-year-olds.

The search is now on for a South Side coach to go head-to-head with Gillett. Corey himself will stay neutral, backing both sides with his trademark chaotic energy and questionable planning skills.

There’s still time to register your footy-mad kids (ages 11–12) for the comp, which promises passion, fun, and a bit of organised mayhem, all in the name of bringing joy back to junior rugby league.
